why does my blue print purple

Epson R245, even with different art packages, on graphic designs, my bright blue prints out as royal purple. the other colour are ok.

I have used plain and photo paper with the same result.

Re: why does my blue print purple

I have same problem with commercial printers.

but main problem is that your monitor is showing purple as blue. Your monitor probably needs to be color corrected or switched.

My wife had a web/print project that used a lot of purple and blues, and as it turns out, some of shades of the colors available in web were totally out of gamut in print, especially the deep blues.

If your monitor and printer is properly profiled, try using soft proofing in photoshop, it'll give you a good idea how the printer is behaving with your colors. Eric Chan has a Epson3800 workflow that you can use as a guide.

Do a nozzle check and I bet you have lines missing in the cyan nozzles. Look carefully, with a magnifier if possible, and make sure that all of the horizontal lines are there. In any are missing then do cleaning cycles to get them back.

Good chance that's the problem. Manufacturers have been reducing the saturation of the RGB values to produce brighter displays. The effects can be serious in the blues since desaturating blue also shifts the hue, This happens with other colors too but blue-violet shifts are notorious. Profling the monitor and using color managed apps like Photoshop fixes this. Within the gamut of the monitor anyway.

Another problem is the printer itself. Blues can be hard to do. Especially brighter and saturated ones. If your image exceeds the printer's gamut then use perceptual mode which most vendors take some care to reproduce constant hue for out of gamut color.

Re: why does my blue print purple

Thanks, going to have a go at sorting this now.

Out of interest, the printer has been doing excellent PHOTO's for over a year - it was only when I went to a text / photo mix for a newsletter type page that this happened, also, I have just changed my CYAN cartridge (all proper Epson products).

solved

Just updating in case anyone uses the thread for reference

Everything is blue blue blue again.

I took my CYAN out and just shook it to make sure the ink had not settled (I forgot to shake when I loaded it a couple of days back), then I did a head clean. everything is vibrant and correct again - thanks all
